Thank you for visiting The EdTech Sandbox! If you haven’t already, please check out the first post that explains the inspiration behind The EdTech Sandbox.
In addition to teaching in the morning, I help MASH staff integrate technology into their curriculum. I see teacher collaboration, exploration, and sandbox time (i.e. time spent tinkering with new resources and strategies) as some of the best professional development out there. I use technology in my classroom because it enriches our learning community. Technology allows me to spend better use of my time evaluating and celebrating student growth through precise formative assessment measurements. Technology tools also help my students think, communicate, collaborate, and create “outside the box” as they learn why and how to become global citizens.
I am certainly not an expert at all things regarding technology integration but I am passionate about trying new approaches to help reach all students and helping students succeed in life. I believe educational technology is one way to accomplish our work. I completed my Master’s degree in Instructional Technology a few years ago and focused on school BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policies and strategies. I also serve on our district’s Technology Integration Committee. Continuous learning and working with colleagues in this field is enjoyable for me. I use Twitter to stay updated within the field of educational technology and enjoy connecting with educators from around the world.
This blog is about helping MASH educators explore, create and share technology-based learning strategies. Each post will be like an informal chat in a sandbox or at the copy machine (minus the occasional copy jam fight). You can expect to read about challenges, successes, and suggestions. Blog posts will include my experiences as well as many others from around the building in different departments and levels. I will also include resources to help you reimagine the extraordinary work that you do everyday. Posts will be short bursts of information because our time is limited!
In addition to meeting with MASH teachers in the afternoon, I try to devote a small portion of the day staying current on edtech topics. I will include key findings in blog entries.
I hope you find the time in the EdTech Sandbox to be worthwhile. Please contact me (jreidy@mbgsd.org) or track me down in room 24o if you would like any sort of help with technology integration such as building something, researching a topic, or co-teaching a lesson. I look forward to exploring, creating and sharing with you.
Cheers! – Joe Reidy
